Health & Education Communication Consultants (HECC) is a full-service communication and education consulting firm. Our mission is targeted health communication and education in the public sector through:
- Materials development and publishing,
- Intervention and initiative design,
- Social marketing and message development,
- Research and evaluation, and
- Training, technical assistance, and project/meeting facilitation.
HECC was founded in 1985 by former partners Lisa Hunter, PhD, and Donna Lloyd-Jones, PhD. Though Lisa retired in 2006 and Donna started another consulting firm, Catalyst Research and Communication, both serve as consultants on projects as appropriate.
HECC often collaborates with other woman-owned businesses including: Catalyst Research and Communication, Russell & English Research & Evaluation (R2E2), and ToucanEd.
Joy Osterhout, MS, MCHES
Joy Osterhout, MS, MCHES, is HECC’s current Principal/Owner. Osterhout started at HECC in 1999 as the Research Associate in the East Coast office and in 2001 moved to California and became HECC’s Project Director. Osterhout has worked with local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as non-profit and healthcare agencies since 1995. Osterhout is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist, and holds a MS in Health Education and Health Administration and a BS in Marketing and Communications. She also recently completed training as a Health and Wellness Coach. In her free time you may find Joy in a Yin Yoga class, gardening, reading a humorous novel, or exploring the great outdoors, anywhere between the oceans and mountains, with her family and friends.
